Machine Exercise Technique

When your 10th grade English teacher told you that you could be anything you want if you just work hard enough and don’t give up, she did NOT mean for you to end up on someone’s YouTube fitness channel lookin’ a hot mess! With this series of short videos, I’m going to help you avoid a whole bunch of S. H. I. T.

With this series of short videos, I’m going to help you avoid a whole bunch of S. H. I. T.

You can be put into some situations or positions that can be very dangerous. This machine is a good example: It’s not very adjustable, so I’m not really going to demonstrate very much with it.

Right off the bat: The seat is too high. My hands are too low below my shoulders, and my hands are too far back. I’m going to lower the pad, and this will allow me to start lower underneath the handle bar (so that my thumbs are aligned with my shoulders).

My hands are still too far behind me. I’d like the handles to be more forward, but I can’t change them. Even changing the grip or the width is not going to help. I really would need to adjust forward, and I cannot. Exhale, push. Inhale, resist down.

Caffeine: 14 better options to ease SAD

Nearly a year ago to the dot, I wrote an article about Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), but there I focused on the importance of getting access to a full range spectrum of light. Here I’d like to focus on caffeine and sleep’s effect on SAD. I’ll also offer suggestions for what to do to help you feel better on the dark days.

Avoid fish oil supplements

I don’t generally promote supplements. Most of them play to specific, isolated points of medical research to serve as a magic pill. One remarkable example of this is fish oil.
